LIFE ON A CART-RUT SHELL

Cart-rut shells (Dicathais orbita) are an abundant species found on rocky shores at the lower tide zone and below. The east coast form is strongly sculptured with coarse spiral ribs, an ideal place for encrusting species to occasionally establish and in turn create a micro habitat for those species able to withstand the strong wave action that is a feature of this species habitat.
