JANTHINA SHELLS

The shells of live Janthina sp are sometimes found with growths of Lepas pectinata, very small
gastropod snails (Litiopa sp) and worms. Some growths can become quite large and must at some
point make maintaining positive bouyancy very difficult, as in the image below. The white circular
patch on the right hand side of the shell above is the egg coil of a sea slug, possibly Fionna pinnata.
