FAMILY : EPITONIIDAE
Recluzia johnii (Holten,1802)
After 30 years
hoping to find this species alive I found three cast up during a strong onshore
wind, along
with the brown floating anemones (Actinecta sp) that this species
preys upon.
Two had many eggs
suspended from the bubble raft. Put into a tank for observation they consumed
two
of the anemones,
leaving nothing but the hardened float chamber.
They
then spent time enlarging their bubble rafts, after
which they set upon the many
small anemones
that were attached to a piece of pumice also in the tank.
